| Sito ufficiale della CCSVI online:CCSVI - Chronic Cerebro Spinal Venous Insufficiency - is a syndrome in which narrowing (stenosis) and/or dysfunctional valves of veins in the neck (jugular) or chest cavity (azygos) interfere with the draining of oxygen-poor blood from the Central Nervous System (CNS). This may lead to reversed or slowed blood flow (reflux) in the brain veins. This reflux can damage the natural protection against backflow, the "Blood Brain Barrier", and allow the blood - contaminated with waste products - to flow back into the CNS (CCSVI). In CCSVI and MS patients, this can - in accordance with the theory of Dr Paolo Zamboni published in 2008 - lead to an auto-immune reaction responsible for symptoms, associated with multiple sclerosis (MS), such as chronic inflammation of the brain with permanent brain damage and worsening MS symptoms.
